Factor 5's MusyX GBC shows off how easily quality music and effects can be done SIMULTANIOUSLY, without hitting game performance. The music is light and happy the majority of the time, which goes along with the tropical theme, and the bonehead gang's theme is appropriately dark and melodramatic.

Da Sound:

While most GameBoy games fail to impress me with the quality of their sound, Xtreme Sports has presented a new step forward in this area, at least for Infogrames. This game contains an elusive feature that puts it, once again, on a few steps ahead of many other GameBoy games. "What is it?" you ask, "What is this feature that has eluded otherwise competent developers for so long?" Well, the answer is simple: listenable music. Now, the music here is nothing like you'd expect on the Playstation, or even the Super Nintendo, but the soundtrack uses may different layers and is good enough that I didn't feel an uncontrollable urge to mute it out once during the twenty-plus hours I played this game. For a Game Boy game, this most impressive.

Soundtrack - Cutesy tunes and fun noises are sprinkled throughout this title, giving the action an appropriately juvenile and upbeat tempo. Notably, the music becomes more sinister and haunting when you encounter a Bone Head or Goon Squad member. This shift in tone sounds awfully similar to the ghostly music found in Lavender Town's Pokémon Tower in the Pokémon games. Sound effects scratch, whiz, and plink pleasantly, and seem well matched to what's going down on the screen.

Sound & Music

The music is also surprisingly simple and very effective. There really is a wonderful 'scary movie' type feel to it and it helps set the atmosphere of the game perfectly. There are also some very clear samples from Wendy which are triggered whenever a bonus is collected or lost. Overall, for a GBC game, an excellent effort. Simple throughout, but it all works.

The sound effects are cool and are well rendered. The background music is lively, and would (sic) is perfect to define the mood of the level. Younger kids will enjoy the sound.
