"All my F#s are out..." Are you referring to the keys themselves
or was
that a typo? I have some ideas for both. Keyboard related
issues are
addressed in the Sync
Tips & Tricks link. Otherwise:
1) Booting up?
2) Try your diagnostic software
3) Make sure your cards are seated properly (top bin)
4) Fuse?
5) Loose cables connecting FM cards (top bin)
6) +/- 5 volt power supply
7) Bad audio cables
8) Bad solder connection to your output jacks
9) Bad output card (the center card in the top bin that drives
the audio)
I had the same problem. Most of this is what was wrong with mine
AFTER it
was refurbished by the company due to a card cage retaining bar that
was missing.
Supposedly you can combine the two. Although they have to be the
same match
card wise. You know, manufactured withing certain dates and parameters.
Others have tried the same (bought several old FM systems) with no
luck.
Although, using the FM voices as a slave to a larger system (panning
voices) is easily accomplished. I have my Synclavier II "hanging
off" of
my 6400.
Regarding the memory issue. It is possible to combine memory cards
(128k and
512k). There is a specific limitation as to how many of each
i.e. 2 128k
with 2 512k cards. Most of the issue stems from lack of available
room in
the "bin" (see my "Synclavier
Tips and Tricks" link). System memory can also "bumped" up
from 56k to 64k, but nothing beyond that. Experiment a little
if you are
comfortable. Sync techs can be mighty expensive. Although,
this can be your
best bet if you need a good reliable system.

in" with
their ideas. |
