Hi this is Edd again.  I still do not understand a few things. When the synclavier2 first came on the market in the 80's, was it already 16 bit sampler?

The Synclavier II was upgraded and called a PSMT in 1986.  That was a sampling unit with 16 bit sampling. The Synclavier II is in a much smaller package and only has 8 bit synthesis and MONO 16 bit sampling.  In the late Eighties, the PSMT was upgraded and called a 3200/6400/9600 (depending on configuration).

Is there any 8bit or 12bit version of the synclavier2?

Only 8 bit synthesis, not sampling.  Sampling has ALWAYS been 16 bit.

Is the Synclavier2 powerful for editing samples? Is it a real good sampler?

Once you learn the system, it is INCREDIBLY powerful.  But there are a lot of software sound editors on the market that can do the same although they are NOT seemlessly integrated into one comprehensive environment.

What would be the difference wit a Fairlight 2x?

The Fairlight IIx has lower fidelity (15Khz upper end) and although you can load voices into all 8 cards simultaneously, they still were monophonic.  It does has nifty additive synthesis and a "thick" sound.

You know the configuration I am intersted in , so please can you tell me if you know somoeone that would sell this?

Refer to my "classifieds".  There are 3200s, PSMTs & a Synclavier II.  Choose your configuration and take your pick!

Is th eSynclavier always with the little computer I can see on the pictures? Is this computer part of the machine like it is on the Fairlight 2x

Yup, unless you are using a Synclavier II with *very* old software.  First there was a "dumb terminal" for user communication. Then specific software for the Macintosh was introduced.  Later, the whole operating system was made to reside on the Macintosh.

Does the Synclavier gives a special color to the sound and the samples:cause That's what i am looking for, a sampler that would give an "original" colour! Does the synclavier give its own colour to a sampled sound or loop?

The Synclavier is "pure", "clean", has a very low noise floor, and authentic sound recreation.
