  Power supplies

Be sure to have your power supplies checked regularly for proper voltage.  They tend to drop in voltage over the years and also when towers are expanded.

When "low", the 5 volt supplies can cause SCSI "Time Out" errors and the increased likelihood of crashing.

Make sure your fuse's contacts are clean.  They can oxidize over time causing a poor electrical connection.

  Patriot drives

The Patriot drives are very "mechanical".  That is, they have a lot of moving parts.  The grease tends to bind up the mechanism when not used for a period of time.  Be sure to run a cleaning tape on a regular basis to "excerise" the drives if they are not used very often.
